This comprehensive 200-mark Grade 12 Geography Trials Theory Paper is structured across three sections. Section A (100 marks) is an integrated question set in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, covering geographical skills, tropical cyclones (with a focus on Hurricane Dorian), city climates and the urban heat island effect, and geomorphology centred on the Breede River catchment. It also includes an extended writing task requiring learners to compile a report on commercial canola farming in the Overberg. Section B (25 marks each) addresses climate and weather — including valley climates and synoptic chart analysis — as well as geomorphology, with questions on the Gouritz Water Management Area, meanders, hydrographs, and watershed abstraction. Section C (50 marks) covers settlement and economic geography, including settlement types, Simon's Town as a case study, urban hierarchies, and the role of coal in South Africa's economy and environment.
The paper includes a full memorandum and tests skills across all cognitive levels, from recall to analysis and extended writing.
